BTT #24 - Stories from the First-Phase Anandamelas(1975-1979)

Four stories from four different Anandamela from the first-phase....i.e. from 1975(1382) - 1979(1386) period when this was a monthly magazine.
In the first phase of Anandamela,we had 51 issues in the first 51 months i.e. for a stretch of 4 years and 3 months(Apr'75 - Jun'79) before the magazine shifted from monthly to fortnightly but the size reduced drastically, almost half of the original shape...

I was searching for these 51 issues since the last few years and before the last week,I was missing 5 issues from which I got 4.....so the score is 50/51 and only 1 remains to track(Boishak/1385) ! :) [till Dec'13 I had only two issues but since Jan'14,I was getting these issues regularly, alongwith the later years aswell..]

These are the new haul...

The four selected stories....
Now a Tarzan 'news'(from 'Joyistha/1384')...as Tarzan was halted for some 6-7 months,so publisher had to explain the reason and so.. :-)
Few Tarzan pages from these issues..

Apart from Tarzan,the famous Noleda...

Besides these Anandamela, that day was fruitful with many Bengali and English novels/books,some of which I was searching for long!

-----------------------
By the way,one of out visitors,Suman once pointed out to Mr. Herze - the famous creator of TINTIN - about a small mistake in the story "Bombete Jahaj" that first published serially in 1976-77 Anandamela issues(where he probably saw that mistake). The same story later published as book on 1996 and that mistake was rectified there,as promised by Herze himself!! :-)

Here you can see both 'original'(from the 1977 Anandamela) and the 'rectified'(book) version from 1996..

BTT #23 - My Poetries @e-Magazines(Pujabarshiki)

Friends,as you know we have two famous e-magazine groups : "Feluda Fan Club" and "Feluda Dreamers official" - both do publish Pujabarshiki(Puja Annual) on every year as they did on this year,1421. Few weeks ago,I have sent my poetries for their consideration. Now, these two e-magazines have released on yesterday at Mahasathi,30/9/2014, and both of my poetries have been selected in their pages!
So a big thanks for the respective editorial groups. :)
----------------------------
In this post I will add BOTH the original links of these two Magazines(Pujabarshiki) from where you can read their "Printed-versions",as well as, My "Original Copies",which I had sent at first place. [While I am posting the original Version for easier access for all, I will always suggest you to download these magazines as there are plenty other fine write-ups/articles..Also their presentation,get-up are top-notch.]
-------------------------------
[1] The first poetry was titled "Tumi Acho(তুমি আছো)" which has been published in 'Feluda Fan Club's Magazine "Amra o Feluda(আমরা ও ফেলুদা)" (https://www.facebook.com/groups/feluda.3musketeres/) .You have to just join the group and download the magazine(my poetry is on page-142).

Direct DOWNLOAD Link : "Amra o Feluda"('তুমি আছো' at p-142)

"NOTE" : There are a couple of 'mistakes' like the 5th line has been repeated and it should had been 'Sada Kash' instead of 'Sada Pal' on the 8th line....rest is ok! :)
--------------------------------
[2] The second poetry was titled "Runa,Tumi Asbe?(রুণা,তুমি আসবে?)" which has been published in  'Feluda Dreamers official's magazine "Kheror Khata(খেরোর খাতা)"(https://www.facebook.com/groups/feludadreamers/). Here also you simply have to join and download the magazine(my poetry is on page-17)..

Direct DOWNLOAD Link : "Kheror Khata"('রুণা,তুমি আসবে?' at p-17)

"NOTE" : A noticeable mistake like wrong-spelling of RUNA...it should be "রুণা" and not 'রুনা'....Other than this, only a few minor typos like it should be 'ভেবোনা' instead of 'ভাবনা'(which has been repeated for more than twice) and few others..but these won't bother you much, hopefully!
--------------------------------
AND FINALLY,I am adding the Original Copies of these two poetries.While I sent 'Runa,Tumi Asbe(রুণা,তুমি আসবে ?)?' in typed-version(Avro) ,I had to sent hand-written version for 'Tumi Acho(তুমি আছো)' due to time-constraint,unfortunately.

Also visit my FB Status for the same....

BTT #20 : সুপ্রভাত Once Again!

BTT #15 - Two Adventures of Sherlock Holmes AND Some Cover-arts by Subrata Ganguly from ANANDAMELA

Update(22/7/14) :
There are some start/end dates of Western comic-strips ran in the Anandamela in various period(all strips cudn't cover in one post as ABP introduced/stopped strips just randomly,so bit difficult to locate!)
  • Batch-1:
Bagha - 18/7/1979 to 8/4/1984
Roverser Roy - 18/7/1979 to 31/3/1993
Flash Goron - 30/6/1982 to 9/1/1985
He-man - 17/4/1991 to 3/3/1993
Batman - 15/11/1989 to 25/12/1991
Aranyadev - 3/3/1993 to Apr/2004; Aug/2008 to present

---------------------------------

Bengali teen-mag Anandamela introduced Sherlock Holmes' translated series in the July'84 which ran till Feb'88 and covered 27 stories. The translator was Subhadrakumar Sen,and after trying out several other translators work on this series,I can confirm that his work is indeed the BEST! There are some who did decent enough, like Subhadra Mitra(Granthamitra pub.), but he was phenomenal!
Along with Mr.Sen's translation, the brilliant b/w painted art by Subrata Ganguly(mostly) were a treat! Undoubtedly, their combination made this series even more appealing to the readers...

From that series,I have picked two stories. These are 'ভায়লা হান্টারের সমস্যা' based on 'The Adventure of the Copper Beeches' and 'চরম সংঘর্ষ' based on 'The Final Problem' i.e. the 'last' adventure where Holmes was 'killed' as Sir Arthur C Doyle was willing to end this series...but what happened after some 10 years is a different topic! :)

ভায়লা হান্টারের সমস্যা was appeared in the Anandamela pujabarshiki 1392(1985) while চরম সংঘর্ষ was published in 4 parts in the pakkhik issues dated 27/5/1987 to 8/7/1987.
 ---------------------------------------------
Now,some fantastic cover-arts by Subrata Ganguly from the '80s Anandamela issues....these are simply treat for the eyes! (click on the images for better view)

BTT #13 : Satyajit - তোমায় সেলাম !!

 Today's the day....
The day to remember.
The day to celebrate.
The day to cherish the old memories!
And every time you would realize that he is still here, alive, even after more than 2 decades of his demise! Such an impact he left within us...

Once again, Satyajit - তোমায় সেলাম !!

I donno about you but I will probably re-read(for the nth time) few classics on this day(and the days coming)...that's the best way to celebrate this moment that I can think about!!

Between,I'm posting a couple sketches by me as a tribute to this legendary creator...these incld. the great master himself and another from the classic রক্ত-মৎস রহস্য(of Prof. Sanku)....
Finally, for readers, a small compilation of SR's unfinished(অসমাপ্ত ) Sanku and Feluda stories from his last days...scans are from Pujabarshiki Anandamela 1399 and Saradiya Sandesh 1403,respectively!

BTT #11 : A TRIPLE POST - James Bond, Walt Disney and Raat Gobhir(A Horror Story)

  • JAMES BOND COMICS :
Probably one of the first 007 Bond comics(if not the very first) in Bengali. This Ian Fleming's original(For your Eyes Only) was drawn by first Bond artist :  John McLusky. And the illustration was superb.
On 2009, Titan released some volumes of JB comic-strips where the first volume was exclusively for JM's strips!
[ Indian comic fans might remember that Diamond Comics introduced James Bond in the '90s and published several issues but majority of  those were by Yaroslav Horak - another prominent Bond artist.]
  • Title of the Story : একান্ত গোপনীয়(For your Eyes Only ; 10th Daily strip)
  • Publication period(in Bengali) : Anandamela Pujabarshiki 1989(১৩৯৬)
  •   Walt Disney's COMICS :
The first Walt Disney's comic-strip appeared in the monthly Anandamela issues, although this series was already introduced in the Pujabarshiki!
  • Title of the Story : ডাইনোসর-চুরি(One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing ; 87th Sunday strip)
  • Publication period(in Bengali) : Anandamela Monthly issues from 1976(২য় বর্ষ ৩য় সংখ্যা - ৯ম সংখ্যা ; ১৩৮৩)
And the 3rd part of this post, a short but intriguing Bengali ghost story by Harinarayan Chattopadhay...
  • Title of the Story : রাত গভীর
  • Publication period : Anandamela April 1975(১ম বর্ষ  ১ম সংখ্যা ; ১৩৮২)
Now time for some trivia :
Billy's boot was once again appeared in the Anandamela Pujabarshiki 1989(১৩৯৬),after his first appearance on 1983(১৩৯০),but this time he was not Bilas Roy but Billy Dane i.e. publisher retained the original name. It's quite amusing though to see a character in two different names under same publication within few years only, indicating they didn't check the archive before posting!
But in this Anandamela, it was only a 2-pager,so not exactly a full-story but like a filler!
And last but not the least, we all are familiar with Iznogaud and Timpa - two completely different comic-series - in English book-format,but do you know that they had their own Bengali series?? Yes,a quite lesser known publihser, Bingsha Shatabdi, published some issues of these series in Bengali in the late '80s as you can see the ads from an Anandamela issue.
Only regret is that neither I have ever seen any of those issues in old-book shops nor the publisher is showing any response...might be they have moved in a different direction!
Anyway,it's amazing to see how rich Bengali comic-culture was in those days of  '70s and '80s till '90s...
